Goodwill Of Orange County’s Annual Golf Invitational Raises $152,000 For Local Veterans

On Wednesday, June 29, Goodwill of Orange County hosted its annual Golf Invitational at the renowned Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast. It was a warm, sunny day and more than 140 golfers came out to support our annual fundraising event.

0072The tournament raised more than $152,000 for our Enduring Independence program, a pioneering effort that helps veterans and their families easily transition into civilian life. The Enduring Independence program is a three-pillared program that addresses the spectrum of veteran needs:

  • Preparation: Developing the readiness to capitalize on job opportunities sourced by Goodwill Orange County;
  • Wellness: Ensuring veterans maintain their service fitness to sustain enduring independence;
  • Financial Independence: Making certain that veterans have both the knowledge and financial decision making assets to protect their enduring financial independence.

0111The evening portion of the Golf Invitational featured a buffet dinner, and both a silent and live auction. Keynote speaker Major General Paul Mock and Goodwill of Orange County employee Andrew Ellis delivered moving speeches during the event discussing how Goodwill of Orange County has positively impacted the lives of veterans in the community and looks to expand those efforts.

Mr. Ellis shared his personal story – from serving in Afghanistan to his transition back to civilian life. Mr. Ellis explained how Goodwill of Orange County has helped him on his journey to employment and how his new role on the Goodwill Veteran Services Team has allowed him to connect and provide opportunities to fellow veterans.

Another highlight of the evening program revealed that Goodwill of Orange County has been selected to receive a $1.6 million grant from America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) Community Integration to execute a new, integrated approach to serving warriors and their families in Orange County.

Goodwill aims to identify and connect with former soldiers throughout the county and then link them and their families to local resources who provide the direct services they need. AWP CEO Jim Lorraine and Community Manager Anthony Krepps were present at the event as well as Wounded Warrior Project Warriors Sonny Seyedi and Garrett Brooks.
