DIY Scarf Art

DIY Scarf Art Hello there, Janeane here with Janeane Pittman Interior Design.  This weeks DIY home decor project is combining fashion with interiors by making art from a scarf utilizing items I found on a recent trip to Goodwill of Orange County. Here is how I did it! DIY Scarf Art Supplies Supplies:

  • 2 Framed Mirrors from Goodwill
  • Scarf from Goodwill
  • Paperback book from Goodwill
  • Decoupage medium
  • Gold metallic spray paint
  • Tape
  • Hot Glue Stick

Tools:

  • Razor Blade
  • Sponge Brush
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Cost:

  • $12 for items from Goodwill
  • $5 for other supplies

Step 1-Cut the adhesive holding the mirror in place Step 1-Cut the adhesive holding the mirror in place Step 2-Remove mirror from frame Step 2-Remove mirror from frame Step 3-Rip small pieces from book pages Step 3-Rip small pieces from book pages Step 4-Apply decoupage onto a small section of the frame Step 4-Apply decoupage onto a small section of the frame Step 5-Apply book page pieces to frame and apply decoupage on top Step 5-Apply book page pieces to frame and apply decoupage on top Step 6-Continue applying book page pieces and allow the decoupage to dry Step 6-Continue applying book page pieces and allow the decoupage to dry Step 7-Apply several coats of gold spray paint to the frame Step 7-Apply several coats of gold spray paint to the frame Step 8-Place the mirror on the scarf and cut around leaving enough to wrap Step 8-Place the mirror on the scarf and cut around leaving enough to wrap Step 9-Wrap the cut scarf around the mirror and tape it onto the back side Step 9-Wrap the cut scarf around the mirror and tape it onto the back side Step 10-Put the scarf covered mirror back into the frame and hot glue around the edges to secure Step 10-Put the scarf covered mirror back into the frame and hot glue around the edges to secure Step 11-Hang the scarf art up and admire your work Step 11-Hang the scarf art up and admire your work I chose to highlight my favorite part of the scarf pattern in each frame.  This scarf art is the perfect addition hung as a grouping over a reading nook.  And just so no materials go wasted, I plan on using the rest of the scarf for other accessories for this space, perhaps a pillow.  And the book, well it is staying in my stock for future use because there is so much I can repurpose with book pages.  A few I can think of are covering canvases, using as a wallcovering, and painting artwork on them. DIY Scarf Art I love the reflective quality of the mirror through the filmy scarf that resembles watercolor. The texture on the frames remind me of gold leafing.
