There’s no doubt about it: a job interview can be a stressful experience. You may need to go a few rounds – or even interview in front of a panel!
Although this article can’t help you with crafting the perfect resumé, it can help you with the perfect interview outfit.
There are 2 major keys to nailing your interview look.
The first is not being afraid of repeats. That’s not to say you want to wear the exact same thing twice, but don’t be afraid to rock the same suit or tie for men, or the same blouse or jacket for women. The idea behind this is that it makes you appear predictable – and, therefore, reliable.
The second key is to have everything you need, wardrobe-wise, before you land the interview. Because the last thing you want to is rush out the week of the big day and try to find something respectable to wear.
You need to have all that stuff beforehand – so here’s what you should look for:
For men, you want to have:
- 2 matching suits
- 2 dress shirts
- 2 ties
- black shoes
- a bag
For women, you want to have:
- 2 blazers
- 2 sleeveless or short sleeve blouses (so they fit nicely under jackets)
- 1 dress
- 1 pair of pants
- a good handbag (leather, if possible)
- black pumps
To create these looks, even at the “budget” level, could cost – at a minimum – upwards of $500. But by shopping at Goodwill of Orange County stores, you can duplicate these totally profesh outfits for literally a fraction of that cost.
With most items at Goodwill stores being under $10, you can build a basic interview wardrobe for under $100 – total!
So, use the guidelines above to shop for your interview wardrobe collection. At most Goodwill locations, the garments are sorted by garment type so you can easily find what you’re looking for. And, at the Goodwill boutiques, the best quality of selection is set aside so you can find top-notch pieces.
Just remember, first impressions count! So don’t be afraid to dress your absolute best. Happy shopping – and knock ’em dead!
