DIY Halloween Projects with Your Kids

goodwill_decor2

It’s hard to believe that Halloween is just a few days away! If you haven’t started decorating yet, it’s not too late to add a touch of spooky fright to your home.

Instead of purchasing overpriced goods at a craft store, head to your local Goodwill of Orange County to find the essentials for your weekend DIY Halloween craft projects. Best of all when you shop at Goodwill, you not only save a ton of cash, but you help provide assistance to people in your community facing barriers to employment.

From graveyard terrariums to sparkly skeletons and candy corn mason jars, get into the Halloween spirit with these quick and easy DIY home decoration projects.

Pumpkin Party Coolers

Forgo the cooler for your Halloween party and turn a carved pumpkin into a festive ice bucket. Cut off the top of a large, wide pumpkin, scrape out the pulp and seeds, and line it with a plastic bowl to prevent it from becoming saturated. Top it off by filling the bowl with ice and bottled drinks.

Potion & Specimen Jars

Darken your mantle by displaying an array of supernatural potions and preserved specimens. Fill mason jars or vases with water and purple or green food coloring then place doll heads, plastic animals and bugs, fake eyeballs or vampire teeth inside.

Sparkly Skeletons

Not every Halloween decoration needs to elicit fear or angst. Go chic with your décor by outfitting plastic skeleton parts in glitter. All you’ll need is a paintbrush, some tacky glue, and any opaque color of glitter you like.

Vintage Bell Jars

Bell jars are a great way to add a touch of eerie, eclectic fun. Go for a chic, Poe-inspired look by filling your bell jar with a crow and some moss, or go ultra spooky and display a mummified head.

Eerie Candlesticks & Candelabras

Spook up an ordinary candlestick or candelabra by coating it with matte-gray spray paint. Find dark red or black and white striped candles to give a dramatic look.

Graveyard Terrariums

Find an old aquarium or large glass jar – if it’s cracked or broken, even better! – and fill it with fake moss, spiders, tree branches, rocks, and tiny tombstones.

witch-hatsFloating Witches Hats

Head to your local Goodwill and grab a few black witches hats – and a broom! Find a corner in your home and hang the hats from the ceiling using clear fishing wire and rest the broom against the wall beneath them. So very Harry Potter-esque!

Candy Corn Mason Jars

Turn your favorite Halloween candy into a home decoration! You’ll need a few Mason Jars and cans of orange, white, and yellow spray paint. Add some fake black roses to give it a creepy touch.
