Nicole, here from The Wardrobe Code, and by the time I was a tween, in the early-1990’s, my parents and I had established a very special back-to-school shopping routine.
Years of late-summer haggling with an only child had taken their toll, and my mother had finally decided that a “tough love” approach was best. So, from every year on, I was handed $150 in cash and dropped off at the main entrance of Crossroads Mall in my hometown of Oklahoma City.
The lesson: if I didn’t spend that money wisely, there would be no mid-term do-over shopping trips; that was it (at least until Christmas). With that few hundred dollars, it was my responsibility to – as Tim Gunn would say – “make it work!”
Even in 1994, $150 wasn’t much for a fall wardrobe. Twenty years later, that amount may not even get you one pair of brand new jeans.
Fortunately, your money goes much further at Goodwill of Orange County stores, especially the new Goodwill Boutique in Tustin. They have an impressive selection of denim, and most pairs are between $19.99 and $24.99, depending on brand.
And when I say they have an impressive selection of jeans, I’m not kidding. They have row upon row of carefully curated denim labels in an array of styles and washes. Literal fields of jeans.
But probably the best part about shopping at the Goodwill Boutique in Tustin is that the jeans aren’t the only thing that’s expertly curated and totally affordable. They also have an excellent selection of fun tops, shoes and bags, so you’ve got everything you need to create a good variety of denim looks.
For the ladies, there’s just a bit more selection and possibilities with shoes, bags and jewelry.
I highly recommend checking out the Goodwill Boutique for building your denim collection for back-to-school. However, if you prefer to do some extreme bargain hunting, check out any of the regular Goodwill of Orange County stores. Many denim treasures still make their way to all OC locations and regular price denim in Goodwill stores is $8.99.
