Smashmobbing Our Headquarters

Goodwill Smashmob

It was a room full of women having a ball. Literally! Twenty social media influencers were tossing colorful balls at each other in the first-ever smash mob at Goodwill of Orange County. Employees happily joined in! Why? To learn about Goodwill’s awesome mission, of course!  While Goodwill has a serious purpose, that of training people facing barriers and getting them employed, everyone at Goodwill is determined to have fun while achieving it. That’s why we love smash mobs!

Whistle While We Work

Our mission is clear: “Goodwill is in the business of helping people who are facing barriers, to get and keep jobs which provides purpose, pride and dignity. We believe the power of work changes lives.” However, a recent survey revealed that only 23% of people know what we actually do. So we set out to change that. We invited local bloggers to experience Goodwill so they could spread the word to their readers.

Organizing this event was quite a bit of work. We invited the bloggers, of course; then coordinated media materials, developed presentations, planned catering… Besides the smash mob, we shared lunch, a tour of our facilities, a workshop about effective blogging and a live speaker, Neemiah. Neemiah is one of our many Goodwill success stories who really inspired our guests. Watch his story here and be amazed what Goodwill can do for individuals with barriers.

From the arrival of the first blogger to their group shopping spree at the Goodwill store, the day was a success. The bloggers were interested in learning more about the background of Goodwill of Orange County. Many participants asked excellent questions because they had never heard about the wide variety of programs and services that Goodwill offers.

We look forward to further engaging these new blogger friends – and others – to inspire the Orange County community about our mission. We are more than a thrift store or donation center. We provide employment and training services to thousands of local individuals. We believe the power of work changes lives.
