Walking into the doors on 502 East First Street in Tustin left mostly all visitors with jaw drops and eyes wide open. Could they possibly be at a Goodwill store? This place looked immaculate, like a high-end fashion destination, with stylish displays and racks of beautiful designer clothes. Welcome to a new Goodwill experience – The OC Goodwill Boutique!
The looks of this new store were the first thing that stood out to first customers. Everybody loved the displays, praised the employees for their helpfulness and all were super excited about the big brand names that were sold at awesome Goodwill prices. Of course the first 50 customers on May 17 and May 18 were thrilled to receive a $10 gift card. Goodwill received hundreds of entries for the iPad tablets drawing; Leslee B and Clarissa S were the two lucky customers who won!
Customers got to be VIPs on opening day as well and walked the red carpet. Some visitors, such as Monique with her dog Beauty, came from outside the county to check out the Boutique. Goodwill Advocates and invited city officials also walked the red carpet and had the privilege to see the store from the inside an hour before it officially opened.
Everyone was stunned – and excited about a huge line forming outside the store. The public was clearly just as excited as the VIPs, because this line wrapped around the building! From afar, one could have thought a new DMV had opened up. But no – this was all for fun!
At 9AM, Goodwill executives officially declared the new Boutique as open by cutting the red ribbon, and then everyone got to enter. This experience was not just a treasure hunt, it was a high end-treasure hunt and everyone was successfully finding shopping carts full of deals.
The store does not only feature fashion for men, women and children, but also fashion accessories, electronics, vinyl records, home goods with a focus on home decorations, and furniture. The line to the register was about as long as the line that had formed around the building in the morning. And all purchases support Goodwill’s job training and employment services for people facing barriers to employment in Orange County.
An hour after the store had opened, shelves and racks already looked a lot emptier. If you missed the grand opening weekend May 17-19, you should go check out the OC Goodwill Boutique, it gets restocked frequently with repurposed designer goods! Until then, here are some more pictures from opening day for you!
